HTML & CSS: The Good Parts on the Web
This site is organized into three primary sections.
Links & Goodies
The copy of the book is full of cross references that point to this site for a number of reasons, particularly that the book:
- …Carries a title that might well beguile the inexpeerienced, when in fact its intended audience is professional developers with at least 3–5 years’ experience.
- …Wound up being 30% longer than anyone foresaw, and triage was necessary. The balance goes here.
- …Contains chapters about color and images, in spite of the fact that it’s printed in one color.
- …Contains its fair share of hyperlinks and examples, none of which are amenable to interaction when confined to a printed page.
- …Ignores Opera Software’s titles, an issue originally raised in the Preface.
All of the supplemental matter will be found in this section, which includes an index of cross-references, organized by page number.
Errata & Updates
Since I’m only human — just like the editors, reviewers, and production specialists who contributed to this book — the book (unfortunately) contains occasional flubs, (English) syntax errors, and typesetting flaws. The canonical errata list lies over at O’Reilly’s site, which is where you should go first if you find an erratum. However, I’m pretty keen on finding flaws in my work… which means that I’ll say plenty here abut the things that I believe I could’ve done better, given improved discipline and experience.
This section of the site is further meant to address the matter of “Internet Time.” It’s likely that developments will transpire before this book’s second edition is released, invalidating assertions made in the print edition of the book.
Book & Author
In this section you’ll find basic information — especially contact information — about me, O’Reilly Media, the Animal Books, and the “Good Parts” series. I’ll also make an effort to discuss how HTML & CSS: The Good Parts came into being, and introduce myself properly to anyone who cares to browse this section of the site.
…And one more thing
I’m one of those masochists who insists on handrolling stuff whenever it’s even remotely practical, but I don’t have time to build a publishing platform for this site (or my other sites) before the content of this site needs to be mostly complete. Given time and focus, I hope to turn this site into a community space for readers of the book. Between those plans and likely updates, please check back often!
